How the Edmonton Oilers will use the 2017 NHL Draft to improve their team

On Monday, the Edmonton Oil Kings announced they would be acquiring forwards Nick Schmaltz, Jannik Hansen, and Brendan Leipsic, along with defenseman Michael Dal Colle.

Schmaltzz, a right-handed shot, spent last season with the Erie Otters of the American Hockey League.

He had two goals and five points in 17 games, while he was a minus-12 in the AHL.

Hansen was selected by the Oilers in the third round (105th overall) of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.

Leipsic is a left-shot defenseman who played four seasons in the OHL with the Sarnia Sting.

“Nick and Brendan are both young, talented players with tremendous potential,” Oil Kings general manager Craig MacTavish said in a statement.

“Nick’s experience and leadership are a great fit with our club and we look forward to his contributions to our team.”

The three players will be added to the Oilers roster on Tuesday.
