JIM VALVANO, THE AMERICAN CROWD: I think the best speech I have ever heard from a leader of a country like India or a democracy like India is Narendra Modi’s.
It is not even close.
I think it’s the best I have heard from any politician in the history of the country.
It’s something I think I will never forget.
And I don’t think anybody is doing it better.
You know, you can be a good leader and have great speeches.
But I think that in this country you can have great speech and great accomplishments.
So I think this is a man who has the ability to do it.
The only question is how he handles it.
And there are a lot of ways to handle it.
But if he does this, I think he will be the greatest prime minister in the country’s history.
And that’s what we’re going to see.
Thank you very much, Mr. President.
And now, as always, let’s go to the debate.
Q: You are a member of the Indian Parliament.
Do you think India has a chance to become a leader in the global economy?
A: I do.
I don´t think that we can be, you know, if we are all a part of a basket of commodities.
That is what I mean by the basket of goods.
So, yes, I do think we have a chance.
And the way that we’re looking at it is that we are going to have to make some changes, as we’ve done in the past.
But there are going’t be enough changes, you understand?
So, we will have to do some things that we cannot do without.
We will have the opportunity to create jobs in this economy.
And you know what?
They are going, they are going.
And they are also going to come from the lower- and middle-income sections of the population.
So they are a growing segment of our population.
But they are growing, too.
And we are making changes in our economy to give them a better future.
And when we do that, then we can compete.
So we are trying to make sure that we don´T let those segments get too big and that we get the benefits that they deserve.
And, you remember, the U.S. and India are the two largest economies in the world.
We have one of the world´s highest per capita incomes in the OECD, but we also have the world’s second-highest per capita income.
So in some ways, we are in a situation of being a global power.
But we have to create more jobs.
So what you want to do is, you will make sure you have jobs that are good and that are affordable.
And these are the kinds of things that I believe will create good jobs.
And then you will see, you see in our manufacturing sector, where it is going, that we will be able to compete with other countries.
You will see in the financial services sector, which is a very important sector, we’ll be able, too, to compete, and so forth.
So these are not going to be things that are happening on our own.
These are going on the backs of others.
And so, it is an important part of our strategy.
Now, I am not going in with my eyes wide open.
We are not talking about any particular strategy.
We´re just talking about, you are going have to look at, and look at what are the things that can be done.
And those are things that will create jobs.
But, you may have to have some changes in your own way.
We know that you want us to be a global economy.
We want us not to be just a global trading country, but a global manufacturing nation.
And to be able do that we need to have a very good manufacturing sector.
And if we don’t have that, we´ll be left with a lot fewer jobs in India.
And therefore, a lot less economic growth in the future.
So that is one of my main points.
The other is, that you have to take responsibility.
And at the same time, you have got to take advantage of the opportunities that are out there.
And India has taken advantage of those opportunities.
And by the way, you said that there were a number of opportunities that the U
