Why Michelle Obama will be remembered for the best motivational speech in history

Michelle Obama, the first lady, is making history in 2016 when she delivers the commencement address to her alma mater, Emory University.

But the speech is unlikely to be remembered by the same degree as her father, former US president Barack Obama, who spoke for the first time on his own at the University of Chicago in 2012.

Instead, Ms Obama will have to be compared to her father.

“What’s going to be great about Michelle Obama’s speech is that she is the first first lady to speak on her own,” says Richard Wrangham, an associate professor at the school.

“It will be a rare opportunity for the public to see first lady Michelle Obama speak on their own.”
